Econa

Privacy Policy

Econa screens entrepreneurs for mental health. That only works if you can trust what happens to what you tell us — so this says it plainly.

Effective 11 August 2026

The short version

You can take the Entrepreneur Wellbeing Check without creating an account. Your individual results are never sold, never advertised against, and never shown to an investor, an employer or anyone else. Identifiable results are shared with no one outside Econa except where you ask us to send them, or where the law requires it.

Research access is the one exception, it is always de-identified, and it is limited to qualified university-affiliated academic researchers.

1Who this policy covers

This policy applies to personal data Econa collects through econa.net and founderscreen.org, the Entrepreneur Wellbeing Check, the FounderScreen Initiative, the Econa Labs, the Econa Village and our related business operations.

Econa is the data controller for everything described here — we decide what is collected and why, and we are answerable for it. FounderScreen is built around strict data privacy practices: individual responses are never shared, and ecosystem reporting uses only de-identified, aggregated data.

Where this policy says “the Check” it means the Entrepreneur Wellbeing Check, a seven-question screening instrument. The Check is a screening instrument, not a diagnostic tool, and nothing in it is a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

2Taking the Check without an account

An account is optional. You can complete the Check, receive your score and your personalized action plan, and — if you are referred onward — receive your Connected Mind report, all without registering.

There is one consequence you need to know before you start, because it cannot be undone afterwards:

We will prompt you before results are discarded. Choosing not to register does not reduce your access to the Check, the action plan or any Econa Lab — those are free to every entrepreneur, always.

3What we collect

When you take the Check

When you use the site or hold an account

When money is involved

De-identified and aggregated information — data from which you cannot reasonably be identified — is not personal data under this policy, and we may use it for any lawful purpose, including the research described below.

4Where it comes from

5How we use it

Scoring runs behind the scenes. We administer, score and interpret for you; we do not ask you to do arithmetic on your own mental health.

6Research, and what we will never do

Advancing entrepreneur mental health research is why Econa exists. It is also the place where a privacy policy earns or loses your trust, so here is the commitment in Dr. Freeman's own words:

“Data is not for sale; it is only shared with qualified university-affiliated academic researchers who aim to accelerate entrepreneur resilience, wellbeing and mental health.”

In practice that means:

Population-level reporting for a sponsoring organization is aggregated and requires a pool large enough that no individual can be picked out of it. A sponsor never sees an individual entrepreneur's score.

The Entrepreneur Wellbeing Check instrument itself is in the public domain — it is not proprietary, and anyone may use it.

7When you are referred to Connected Mind

Some results indicate that a clinical assessment would help. In that case we offer a referral to Connected Mind, a behavioural health screening platform.

8How long we keep it

9Who we disclose to

Free access to the FounderScreen Initiative is fiscally sponsored. A fiscal sponsor administers charitable funds; it receives no personal data about anyone who takes the Check.

10Cookies and analytics

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device. We use them to keep the site working, remember your session and understand in aggregate how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features may stop working if you do.

Where we use a third-party analytics provider, that provider receives usage and device information under its own privacy policy, and we configure it to limit what it collects.

11Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it in a particular way. You can withdraw consent at any time, and you can close your account whenever you like.

If you are in the UK, the EU or the EEA

You additionally have the right to data portability, to object to processing, to restrict it, and to complain to your national data protection authority. Our lawful bases are your consent (for the Check and for research contribution), the performance of a contract (accounts, Village membership, donations), and our legitimate interests in operating and securing the platform.

If you are in California

You have the right to know what personal data we collect and how it is used and shared, to request deletion and correction, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Econa does not sell personal data and does not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

To make any request, use the contact page. We will not charge you for it, and we will not treat you differently for asking.

12Security

We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational safeguards — encryption in transit, access controls, and limiting who inside Econa can see what — to protect personal data. No system is perfectly secure, and no one can promise otherwise.

If you are in a crisis right now

Call 911, or call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Do not wait for a screening result, and do not use this page to report an emergency.

13Children

Econa's services are for adults. They are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

14Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of the page, and we will say so prominently if the change is significant. Continuing to use Econa after a change means you accept the updated policy.

15Contact us

For any question about this policy, or to make a request about your personal data, use the contact page. Tell us what you would like us to do and we will come back to you.
